May 7, 2007 - BIRMINGHAM, AL – Community Newspaper Holdings Inc. (CNHI) today announced the purchase new Total Advertising display advertising billing and sales management and Circulation Management systems from Vision Data Equipment Corp. of Rensselaer, NY for each of the four daily newspapers purchased last week from Ottaway Newspapers, Inc.
The Daily Star in Oneonta, NY (16,000 circulation), Press-Republican in Plattsburgh, NY (20,000 circulation), The Daily Item in Sunbury, PA (23,000 circulation) and the Record-Eagle in Traverse City, MI (28,000 circulation), had been using systems developed by Ottaway and linked to Ottaway corporate. One of CNHI's first priorities with these papers was to move them off of the Ottaway software systems. The new Vision Data system installations are expected to be completed in the next ninety days.
Each of the papers will be installing Vision Total Advertising - a complete graphical advertising sales and billing system that runs on a relational database. Ad orders are entered into the system, which generates sales data, calculates commissions, creates layout manifests, interfaces directly with pagination, and produces the industry's most flexible and comprehensive reporting. A lockbox module will be added to facilitate easier and more efficient payment handling.
They will also be getting Vision Circulation, a complete sales and management system which will include all regular circulation functions with household file conversions, plus electronic funds transfer (EFT) capability for auto-debiting payments from bank accounts or credit cards; and automatic CASS certification performed remotely by Vision Data without the need for any work by the newspaper.
According to Thomas A Dempsey, president of Vision Data, "CNHI chose Vision Data for this project citing the proven reliability of our software, the solid accounting strength that underlies all of the software and our proven ability to get projects done professionally and in a timely manner. We will have them up and running live within CNHI's time frame without affecting any pending installations for other customers."
