August 1, 2007 - Ridgefield, CT – Hersam-Acorn Newspapers has purchased Hometown Publications (Shelton, CT), Trumbull Printing (Trumbull, CT), and the Pennysaver Press (Bennington, VT) from Journal Communications, Milwaukee, WI, adding 17 publications and more than doubling the size of the company.

As a part of the purchase, Hersam-Acorn has agreed to move the new properties off of their existing advertising and accounting systems. For this, they have chosen to expand and upgrade their current Vision Data Systems. Vision Data Software, one of the nation’s oldest and most respected publication software companies, continues to be one of the fastest growing, in terms of both technological advances and expanding customer base.

All publications will work off of a single advertising database mounted on a new Sun Microsystems server with a total of 50+ t users having access to appropriate classified, display advertising, circulation and general accounting functions.. The system also includes expanded contact management and sales functionality, not available as a part of other comparable systems.

The included Vision New Media package features the Vision Web Home Order Entry system will greatly expand both newspapers’ new media presence and functionality by allowing both display and classified ads to be ordered on-line by individuals, businesses, and the sales staff. Vision Web Sales Management functionality will also be included.

The second phase of the installation will be to install and move Hersam-Acorn Newspapers, Hometown Publications, Trumbull Printing, and the Pennysaver Press all to the Vision Total Accounts Payable/General Ledger system for all general accounting functions.
